RTL is the leading media provider in Hungary. Their new HQ is going to be located in the city centre is under construction. In order to test alternative solutions and select a designer, the interior design started with an exciting experiment: during the renovation of their old office building located in the suburbs, in the case of three different floors, RTL commissioned different designers on each floor of the building to create a new interior.

LAB5 architects won the conversion of the 6th floor. The program was developed similarly to the other floor levels. Compared to other office functions, there were also generous expectations regarding the interaction spaces. Thus, a significant part of the floor area is occupied by communal or flexibly usable spaces: lounge, cafe, collaboration space, kitchenette.

The concept was built on a clean formula; the spaces of the classic office workstations were given a clear, simple, minimalist design, while the social spaces had a deeper atmosphere and a stronger message.

The use of materials, lights, and colours were inspired by the world of media, where everything changes quickly, glitters and shines, and seems temporary - yet, viewed from a certain distance, the series of these many moments gives the drift of global history, or the flow of intimate personal stories.

The wall cladding made of chromed steel pipes illuminated from behind, the open false ceiling, the wooden tables that seem unplanned, the colourful individual carpets and acoustic elements are counterpointed by the white image and clear order of the workstations.

The layout was also handled simply, the arrival takes place in a larger community space, where the closed functions are combined in a solid, homogeneous core in the middle of the floor plan - where we twirled the additional functions around this central volume.

The experiment was successfully implemented. Our office was awarded to create the design of the interior of the new HQ area and studio in the city centre. In the volumes of the late 40’s modernist building called formerly MÉMOSz Székház, the construction works already going full ahead, and we hope to be able to report again on that soon – stay with us and see you again after the advertisement!
