Venice Biennale of Architecture 2020 - Competition
During the cultural evolution of our natural environment, a second layer of nature is emerging. Its expansion and problematic complexity affects not only wildlife and climate, but human perception as well; broadening medial surfaces are attracting our attention in this intense and oversaturated material environment.
Several indicator features this process beyond our personal experience; declarations of theoreticians, scientists and artist on the one hand, and growing demand for meditation and flourishing pretence of attention on the other hand.
Creating spaces to motivate the perception of presence against dispersal is particularly reasonable, between existential and universal perspectives.
Unusually our creation is not an art piece aimed for reception, it is the feelings and thoughts of the visitors. We install a silent island, a series of architectural atmospheres, where the visitors are capable to be present, to meditate, to focus, to subsist, to deploy themselves. Our main inspiration is the great mass extinction event, but we don’t leave any reference, hint, title regarding to it, beside the basic ambient of the spaces.
