LAB5 X Award – Scholarships for Travelling Students 2024 | Invitation for Competition
The X Award has been founded by LAB5 architects on its tenth anniversary. It’s a scholarship for full-time students of architecture, product and interior design, studying and living in Hungary. We support their travel for learning about art, culture, mainly focusing on design.

The recipient of the LAB5 x 2024 Travel Grant
The recipient of the 2024 Travel Grant, under the motto "Stepping onto the Steppe to See the Vastness," was Gábor Houchard, who undertook an extensive journey through Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.
Gábor was motivated by the question of the "invisible" scale throughout this long journey—both in the sense of the openness and grandeur of the landscape, and in the tensions between early nomadic architecture, the modernism imposed during the Soviet era, and today's everyday solutions searching for a way forward. His investigation focused on the relationship between geographical and historical scales in the search for a lost identity.
